Questions regarding the GEMCOM, INC. Annunciator Fenwal™ Control Panel, the Kidde PEGAsys™ Control Panel, and the Cerberus-Pyrotronics MXL:

  1. Who provides the software and cables?
  2. Who provides the programming? Is the annunciator interface field programmable?
  3. How are communications accomplished?
  4. Can the annunciator be monitored for loss of power or communications?
  5. How many LEDS? How many smart cards are needed?
  6. How much power is needed?
  7. If you have multiple inputs to the annunciator, can they be shown with one LED?
  8. How many annunciators may be used?
  9. How many interfaces are needed if there are more than one control panel?
  10. Is the Annunciator Interface UL listed?
  11. What size annunciator enclosures are necessary?

1. Who provides the software and cables?
GEMCOM, Inc. provides the cables for programming the annunciator or annunciators, but not the cables between annunciators. More than one annunciator can be used. The Annunciator Interface can be connected to as many annunciators as needed, after the first annunciator, through an RS422 port.

2.Who provides the programming? Is the annunciator interface field programmable?
GEMCOM does the initial programming, so that the annunciator can be checked, tested, and everything quality checked. Field-programming messages from a compatible computer (terminal emulation software, such as Hyperterminal®, is required) are possible. Physical addition or deletion of LEDS requires a mylar change. No new EPROM chip is necessary.

3. How are communications accomplished?
With the annunciator interface for the Fenwal 2000™ and Kidde PEGAsys™ control panels, communications are via direct connection to the J15 or J16 port in the control panel.
With the annunciator interface for the Cerberus-Pyrotronics MXL™ control panel, communications are through a PIM module provided by the customer.

4. Can the annunciator be monitored for loss of power or communications?

With the annunciator interface for the Fenwal 1000™ and 4000™, Fenwal 2000™, and Kidde PEGAsys™ control panels, the annunciator can be monitored utilizing a normally closed contact addressable contact input device provided by the customer, or through use of the "paper out" circuit.
The annunciator can be monitored for loss of power through the watchdog terminals and ATRI supplied by Cerberus-Pyrotronics™. (At the present, GEMCOM is working with Cerberus-Pyrotronics™ regarding monitoring for loss of power utilizing the paper out circuit on the PIM module.)

5. How many LEDS? How many smart cards are needed?

The Z-card-the main processor board-can drive 80 external points. Expansion driver cards can provide 80 LED outputs per card. Up to eight expansion cards may be used with a single Z-card for a total of 640 LED outputs. If more than 640 LED outputs are required, an additional Z-card may be added.

6. How much power is needed?
A power limited supply, rated at 24VDC, that is UL listed for fire protective siganling with battery backup, is needed. This power supply is not provided by GEMCOM, Inc. If there is a power supply from a separate source, opto-isolation may be needed to prevent ground fault on the Fenwal systems and the Pyro MXL™systems. Approximate current requirements are as follows:
Z-card with 80 outputs: Standby-200mA Alarm-360mA Z-card with 160 outputs: Standby-280mA Alarm-600mA Z-card with 240 outputs: Standby-360mA Alarm-840mA Z-card with 320 outputs: Standby-440mA Alarm-1.08A Z-card with 400 outputs: Standby-520mA Alarm-1.32A Z-card with 480 outputs: Standby-600mA Alarm-1.56A Z-card with 560 outputs: Standby-680mA Alarm-1.70A Z-card with 640 outputs: Standby-760mA Alarm-2.04A

If an auxiliary power supply is needed, a 4.0 Amp power supply, UL listed for fire protective signaling, can be supplied by GEMCOM, Inc. at an additional cost.

7. If you have multiple inputs to the annunciator, can they be shown with one LED?
If you have multiple inputs to the annunciator, they can be programmed to light one LED or several different LEDS. The Z-card supports inputs to it,not outputs to the control panel.

8. How many annunciators may be used?
The annunciator interface can be connected to as many annuciators as needed through the RS 422 port available on every Z-card.

9. How many interfaces are needed if there are more than one control panel?
You need one interface for each control panel.

10. Is the Annunciator Interface UL listed?
The Annunciator Interface is UL listed to be utilized with the Fenwal 1000™ and 4000™, Fenwal 2000™, Kidde PEGAsys™, and the Cerberus-Pyrotronics MXL™ Control Panels.

11. What size annunciator enclosures are necessary?
The Annunciator Interface will fit in GEMCOM's SH002 (24"x24") or SH004 (30"x30")
